Gardening classes at Highbank with Tonia Todman

Much has been written in praise of growing a garden, but few of us have the luxury of growing a truly magnificent garden from scratch. More often we deal with what has been left to us, or with a small but important space, or even a verandah laden with potted greenery. Whatever your situation, caring for the environment, our ability to grow food, beautiful trees and anticipating the sheer pleasure of the flower garden are matters to happily consider.

Trees in your garden.

So often these marvellous garden assets are taken for granted, yet they offer us and the garden so much. Remember trees can be old or young, large, small, deciduous or evergreen, native or exotic – and they may even be productive nut or fruit trees. They’ll be much better specimens if you plan their position thoughtfully and appropriately, understand their habits and the needs of their on-going care.
